The chief financial officer is hired by the CEO and works at a level under his direction along with the chief operating officer and other senior management positions. The CFO link is only related to finance. They are in charge of developing and maintaining relationships with investors, banks and other financial institutions. Depending on the needs of the company, some financial directors also act as liaison with the board.
